Decongest: New Massage & Bath Oil to Ease Congestion

Mary Bemis

I open the bottle and take a deep whiff of this aromatic blend, and the first scent to hit me is peppermint, followed by eucalyptus, with just the right amount of citrus subtly trailing behind. “Decongest” is a new addition to Essence of Vali’s beautiful lineup of essential oil products (mists, balms, massage and bath oils), and is a therapeutic oil blend that combines orange, lemon, eucalyptus, and peppermint. Jojoba is the base oil for the massage and bath oil, while distilled water is the base for the mist. (The mists are a great item to keep handy; I keep a bottle of Restore Mist in the Balance blend on my office desk and often reach for it for a quick aromatic spritz to help clear my mind.)

Essence of Vali was dreamt up and created by Valerie Bennis, who in 1994, launched the line out of a charming townhouse in New York City’s Greenwich Village. Her first (and to this day, most popular) blend was “Sleep,” a synergistic concentrate of essential oils of lavender, marjoram, cedarwood, and ylang-ylang. Decongest, her newest blend, just may give Sleep a run for your money.

Decongest is a new addition to Essence of Vali’s beautiful lineup of essential oil products (mists, balms, massage and bath oils), and is a therapeutic oil blend that combines orange, lemon, eucalyptus, and peppermint.

I asked her about the inspiration behind the new blend. “I knew it was a blend that was missing from my line,” reveals Valerie. “So many people deal with congestion of one kind or another, and essential oils can ease the discomfort through massage, direct inhalation, and bathing.  It was on my list for the longest time and finally I was able to create it.”

Valerie’s personal tips & expert advice on best uses for Decongest:

“When I have any kind of congestion, I take a bath,” shares Valerie. She combines the Decongest massage and bath oil with a cup of Epsom salts.  “Also, massaging the chest and even doing a gentle facial massage is very helpful.”  Try dabbing a bit above the upper lip, and inhaling the aroma.  The mist is wonderful during the day by spraying around yourself or applying to hands and inhaling.  It also works as a natural air freshener.

Essence of Vali products are available at many fine spas, including Spa at Riverview, Omni Amelia Island, Four Seasons, St Louis, Woodhouse Spas, Travaasa, and Trump International Hotel & Tower. essenceofvali.com
