Spa At-Home Foot Scrub

Paulina Kajankova

Forget nails colors and fancy treatments for a moment—what you really want are healthy nails. Pedicures are made easy, and last longer, once your cuticles and skin are properly cared for.

By now, the kitchen witch in every woman knows how to use at-home remedies. There are numerous ways to use coconut oil, mix masks, scrubs, and wraps by using the very food we eat, and I’m going to share one of my recipes with you for a perfect pedicure scrub.

Before you commit to a beautiful nail color, take the time to prep your feet. Even if you prefer to visit the spa or nail salon for your pedicure, there are easy remedies for in-between trips to soften those hardworking tootsies.

When available, I enjoy fresh ingredients straight from the garden. Here’s a simple and favorite recipe of mine.

Homemade Sea-Salt Foot Scrub Recipe

In a jar or cup mix:

  • 1/2 cup coarse sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons jojoba oil
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice, or if sensitive, use honey
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons chopped, fresh mint leaves
  • 2 to 4 drops essential oil of your choice

Thoroughly mix ingredients, and when done, simply apply to your feet, using circular motions. We like to soak our feet in warm water first, or use this scrub after we’ve soaked in a warm bath. Rinse off scrub, and be careful stepping in and out of the tub or shower, as feet can be a little slippery.

Keep These Nail Products in Mind

Cuticle Boosters & Oils Always soften your cuticles—your nail beds will thank you. You can use something you already have, whether you use a vitamin-infused facial oil or would like to stick with old-fashioned olive oil, what matters is that you use one. We like Deborah Lippman’s “The Cure.”

Natural Nail Polish Remover Living a spa lifestyle sometimes means taking it with you on the go. SpaRitual’s Extra-Strength Conditioning Lacquer Remover Cloths are a healthy alternative to chemical-filled nail polish removers.

Clean Nail Polishes We’ve never been fans of funky colors. We like reds, classic nudes, or if you must, a beautiful hue resembling the sky. Loch Lomond, a pretty robin-egg-blue crème by Scotch Naturals is a beauty.
