Spring Skincare Tips + Six Best Products

Spring awakens all of our senses. Mother Nature has had her rest, and a green blanket of rebirth signals for fresh ingredients. This revival beckons for a new beginning in our daily skincare routines. Storing the old and starting with the new is a ritual that leaves us feeling revitalized and hopeful.

Beauty rituals are more than merely frivolous activities—they are an act of love for our skin and our self. This Spring season, I sought advice from skincare professionals to find out how to improve upon my spring skincare routine—and which routines to embrace in the warmer months ahead.

Smart Skincare Tips for Spring

Jessica Weiser, MD., is a board-certified dermatologist at the New York Dermatology Group. Her natural glow had me wondering what her recommendations are for a gentle transition from winter to spring. Among the ingredients she recommended were antioxidants—crucial in preventing oxidative damage from ultraviolet radiation and other environmental factors.

In order to prevent sun damage and pigmentation, Dr. Weiser advises using sunscreen with physical barrier ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. To keep skin hydrated without clogging pores with heavier active hydrators look for lightweight emollients, like glycerin and squalane.

For your daily routine, use a gentle cleanser twice a day for normal or dry skin, or try a foaming cleanser if you have very oily skin to remove excess oils. Dr. Weiser also recommends switching from thick creams to a lighter weight gel or lotion to prevent occluding the skin surface and triggering clogged pores and blemishes. Lastly, exfoliating two to three times a week is helpful in encouraging skin turnover and preventing congestion.

Holly Cutler, a medical esthetician and founder of The Skin Saint, shared some tips with me, as well. She recommends switching to lighter night creams that increase cell turnover. Look for ingredients like azelaic acid and niacinamide—they are good ones to have in a night cream, as they increase the metabolism of the skin. These ingredients are great for Spring, and will leave your skin looking more refined, fresh, and glowing. Once the weather gets warmer, Cutler suggests using an SPF tinted moisturizer. It will keep your skin protected and hydrated with a dewy glow.

I took their advice to heart and combed over my daily skincare routine, making sure these products made my skin look healthy and feel fresh.

Nelly de Vuyst Micellar Foam Biotense This cleanser comes from Nelly de Vuyst’s Organic Collection, and I am adding it to my personal collection of favorite foaming cleansers. At the end of the day, I’m tired and want a cleanser that will help quickly remove city pollution and makeup. Starting my springtime routine with this cleanser is a pleasure because I know it respects my skin’s pH, and I delight in the clean feeling it leaves afterwards.

MyChelle Perfect C PRO Serum Everyone knows Vitamin C is the It ingredient for better skin. I use a vitamin C serum and personally, it has made a huge difference in my complexion. MyChelle’s serum goes on my freshly washed face during my morning routine. My skin looks luminous and feels renewed.

Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil My skin is dry and sometimes combination. In the last few years, I realized that oils and serums, plus face mists, work better for me than creams. I enjoy using Biossance because I recognize the brand’s sustainability and scientific efforts. The attractive green bottle holds ingredients like squalane and vitamin C rose oil, making it the ideal multitasker. My skin gets the weightless hydration it needs and the brightening power I want.

MILEO New York Labyrinthe Vert Face Oil This gorgeous bottle of oil is the most luxurious and experience-worthy beauty product I’ve ever had the pleasure of using. I love its modern design, performance, and wonderful smell. A little goes a long way, and I use it sparingly every day. I’ve noticed it helps even my skin tone and refine my pores. Admittedly, sometimes I even dab it on my décolletage for its unique scent.

Nairian Nourishing Lip Balm I am a hoarder of lip balms, and it can get out of control. For this reason, I choose only one as a favorite and use it until it’s gone. Nairian is an impressive brand that cares about its community and health. This nourishing lip balm does live to up to its name. I use it day and night, after I finish my skincare routine, and I feel confident that my lips are taken care of. It is light and most importantly, leaves my lips feeling soft.

The Skin Saint Pure Physical Defense Tinted SPF 44 The importance of sunscreen cannot be stressed enough. Once all my products are applied,  I always like to finish my routine with an SPF and tinted moisturizer in one. The less product you can wear, the better. For obvious reasons, I am a huge fan of tinted moisturizers but they are not all created equal. This one has a universal tint, and leaves skin feeling light and hydrated, while helping with that “dewy” glow—exactly what you want out of your springtime routine.
