Now entering its 14th year, Global Wellness Day returns on Saturday, June 14, 2025, with a renewed call to action: Reconnect. Under the banner of this year’s theme, #ReconnectMagenta, the global movement invites us to slow down and consciously re-engage—with ourselves, our communities, and the natural world.
Founded in 2012 by Belgin Aksoy, Global Wellness Day is a not-for-profit celebration observed each June in tens of thousands of locations worldwide, offering complimentary wellness experiences that speak to a universal truth: one day can inspire a lifetime of change. With its ever-expanding reach, GWD remains a powerful catalyst for meaningful connection—and a timely reminder of what truly matters.
Here, founder Belgin Aksoy shares why the message of reconnection feels more urgent than ever—and how #ReconnectMagenta offers a pathway back to what makes us whole.
This year’s Global Wellness Day theme, #ReconnectMagenta, invites us to reconnect—with nature, ourselves, loved ones, and overlooked aspects of wellbeing. Why do you think this call to reconnection feels especially urgent or relevant in today’s fast-paced, hyper-connected world?
My cancer journey in 2004 showed me how easy it is to lose touch with what truly matters—health, relationships, and inner peace. Today, digital overload and social isolation make this disconnection a global crises, and loneliness affects over 60 percent of people, despite constant online connectivity. We live in a world where being constantly connected to technology has left us increasingly disconnected from our inner selves, our relationships, and the natural world. The more we scroll, the more we seem to lose touch with the stillness and meaning that nourish our spirit.

#ReconnectMagenta is not just timely—it’s essential because our fast-paced world pulls us away from nature, self-reflection, and loved ones. This year’s theme is a wake-up call to prioritize authentic relationships over digital noise, creating a more harmonious life.
The color magenta represents universal harmony and emotional balance, which we’re craving more than ever. This year, we are encouraging people to pause and realign with their core values, to look up from their screens, and to rediscover the joy of authentic connection. Because true wellness is not found in apps or algorithms—it’s found in the present moment, in nature’s embrace, and in heartfelt conversations with the people we love.
What is your wellness community? And how does one help other people create or find their own?
My wellness community is the heart of Global Wellness Day—a global family of thousands of volunteers, ambassadors, and supporters across the globe, all passionate about living well. As a not-for-profit initiative, GWD ensures wellness is accessible, with complimentary activities to all. This community thrives on generosity, kindness, united by its motto: “One day can change your whole life.”
To help others find theirs, I suggest reflecting on what brings joy—maybe fitness, mindfulness, or volunteering. We must start by creating safe, inclusive spaces—where people can share their stories, inspire one another, and take small steps toward better living. It doesn’t have to be complicated. Host a walk in the park, start a morning meditation circle, or simply invite your neighbor for tea. The key is intention, it is finding people who uplift and support healthy habits, creating a ripple effect of wellbeing. When we lead with love and purpose, community naturally follows.

Global Wellness Day 2025 urges humanity to rediscover the healing power of meaningful relationships. From your perspective, how can cultivating deeper human connections support our overall wellbeing?
Relationships are medicine for the soul. Deep connections—with family, friends and community—lift us up. We are biologically wired for connection. Research, like Harvard’s long-term study shows, strong bonds lower stress, boost mental health, and even extend life. Yet in today’s world, loneliness has become an epidemic—affecting our mental, emotional, and even physical health. Meaningful relationships give us a sense of belonging, purpose, and security. But most importantly, they remind us that we are not alone in our struggles or joys.
Cultivating deeper human connections is not just a nice-to-have, it’s a core pillar of wellbeing. Whether it’s through a heartfelt hug, an honest conversation, or a shared laugh, connection has the power to heal what medicine sometimes cannot.

On June 14, 2025, thousands of venues worldwide, from luxury hotels to community hubs, will host free events like game nights, group hikes, fostering togetherness. The activities create lasting memories and deepen relationships, proving that real human connection is at the heart of wellbeing, healing us in ways technology cannot.
Reconnection is at the heart of Global Wellness Day 2025. Why do you think health span—not just longevity—is becoming such a key focus in conversations around wellness and healthy aging?
Living longer is no longer enough—we want to live better. Living well matters more than living long. Health span—years lived in vitality—is gaining focus because people want to thrive not just survive. Chronic diseases, which cause 60 percent of deaths globally, often rob us of quality of life.
Reconnection plays a vital role in this because it addresses the emotional, social, and mental dimensions of health that are often overlooked. Science is finally catching up with what we’ve always intuitively known: a joyful, purpose-driven life filled with love and connection contributes to a longer, healthier existence. GWD 2025’s emphasis on sustainable habits and cognitive health encourages practices like gratitude and restorative sleep, vital for aging well. The theme’s impact is global: millions will engage in free wellness activities on June 14, 2025, from nutrition workshops to mindfulness sessions, inspiring lifelong habits that extend health span and make healthy aging accessible to all.
When we nourish our relationships, our sense of community, and our connection with nature, we’re not just adding years to our life—we’re adding life to our years.
In what ways do meaningful connections—with family, friends, and community—contribute to extending our health span and enhancing wellbeing across generations?

Meaningful connections are like invisible threads that strengthen the fabric of our lives. They create emotional resilience, offer support in times of hardship, and bring joy in everyday moments. When we stay connected to loved ones and actively participate in our communities, we experience a greater sense of purpose and fulfillment.
In Blue Zones, where people live longest, multigenerational communities thrive, modeling healthy habits like home-cooked meals or staying active. This sense of purpose has been shown to positively impact cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and overall longevity. And it doesn’t stop with us. Children raised in connected families and communities grow up with stronger emotional intelligence, healthier habits, and greater empathy. This way, connection becomes a legacy—one that enhances wellbeing not just for us, but for future generations.
#ReconnectMagenta theme is poised to have a significant global impact, built on five pillars—reconnecting with nature, self, family, friends, community, and longevity. It offers a roadmap for holistic wellness, and its influence is already visible: Global reach; Cultural shift; Health Span focus; Community Building, and Inclusivity.
