Water-resistant (up to 80 minutes) and loaded with organic aloe, coconut, and jojoba goodness for super-hydration, this skin-saver from Juice Beauty is tops on our beach-bag list. A classic body spritz from Coola, this eco-sized sunscreen spray not only applies well and smells like summer, but contains 70 percent certified organic ingredients like cucumber and red raspberry seed oil. There’s a good reason why this natural brand is beloved by so many. $36, coolasuncare.com
SPF 45 For Baby
It may be formulated especially for babies, but that didn’t stop us from using this gentle and rich hypoallergenic sunscreen from Hampton Sun. A good alternative for sensitive-skin types, it’s mineral-based and contains skin-soothing chamomile, as well as lavender, olive, and sunflower oils. $28, hamptonsuncare.com
Care for Your Hair
Clarifying Lemon Shampoo & Conditioner
Too much time in chlorinated pools can wreak havoc on your hair. Essential oil of lemon, that great clarifier (among many other wonderful things), is the star ingredient in Avalon Organics’ shampoo and conditioner. $11 each, avalonorganics.com
Suncare Protective Hair Veil
We’ve sworn by this product from Aveda for the past couple of years, and pack it in our bags when headed to our favorite sunny spots. It’s easy to mist over your hair, and helps keep your locks safe from the sun for up to 16 hours. Ingredients like cinnamon bark give natural UVA/UVB protection. $28, aveda.com
Sublime After Sun Oil
Five luscious oils (including camellia, one of our all-time favorites) combine to create a lovely, light-scented multi-use formula for hair and body. Dispel a few pumps (according to hair length) into your palm and apply in a scrunching manner from the ends (where it’s most dry) on up. Leaves a subtle shine. $40, phyto.com
Go for the Faux Glow
Natural Radiant Gradual Tan
One of the more luxurious and actually pleasant-smelling (think jasmine and ylang ylang) self-tanners we’ve tested, this innovative formula from ESPA has a really nice creamy formula and is formulated to somehow work intuitively with your skin. Ingredients include color-creating plant actives and skin-nourishing sweet almond oil. $58, us.espaskincare.com
Sun Specialist Sunless Tanner
This is a good option for those who prefer gel lotions, and it may be used on the face as well as the body. The addition of sweet orange fruit extract helps gives your skin a golden glow that develops in two to four hours. From the beauty wizards at Jurlique, this product is also hydrating. $36, jurlique.com
Glow Lotion
Available in formulas for both medium and light skin tones, this moisturizing lotion from Nature’s Gate is a good choice for the budget-conscious. While it takes a bit longer before you’ll notice any color (up to 24 hours), it works gradually and leaves a subtle “glow.” $11.39, naturesgate.com
